At Elk Creek Private, we believe education should be structured yet adaptable, ensuring students thrive academically while embracing the unpredictability of life. Our year-round homeschool calendar is designed with flexibility, allowing families to adjust to challenges, opportunities, and the natural rhythm of learning.
Weekly Curriculum Schedule & Sources
By scheduling instruction Tuesday through Saturday, with Mondays dedicated to independent study, we empower students to take control of their learning in a way that fosters personal responsibility and creativity. This model enables families to plan activities around structured lessons while using Mondays for enrichment, hands-on projects, or additional support.

Our weekly breaks for national holidays ensure that students and families have time to relax, reflect, and engage in meaningful experiences. The inclusion of extended breaks, particularly for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Winter, provides ample time for deeper learning outside of traditional instruction – hether through travel, volunteering, or personal projects.
Perhaps most importantly, our six-week summer break maintains a healthy balance between academics and downtime, while ensuring students don’t experience learning loss. Field trips, scheduled every Thursday during breaks, allow students to explore the world beyond textbooks, making the most of our resources and fostering a love of discovery.
Additionally, the time between August and October in the following year provides a structured transition period between grade levels. This overlap allows students to adjust to new materials, reinforce prior knowledge, and prepare for the academic year ahead without a sudden shift. It also gives families the flexibility to ease into new routines, ensuring that learning remains steady and stress-free.

At Elk Creek Private, our curriculum is built upon four essential questions, guiding the learning process throughout the year:
What do I already know? Students begin each quarter by evaluating their prior knowledge, recognizing strengths, and identifying gaps in understanding.
What do I need to learn? Once the foundation is set, the focus shifts to structured learning, exploration, and skill-building to bridge gaps and expand knowledge.
How does this relate to my present and/or future goals? Education is most effective when connected to real-life applications, so each quarter ensures that students can apply their learning to personal aspirations, future opportunities, and practical experiences.
How can I apply what I’ve learned? The final quarter emphasizes integration, where students demonstrate understanding through projects, discussions, and real-world problem-solving.
